tips to help your candles last longer

The next time you're looking for a new way to create an atmosphere, consider burning a candle.

As easy as it may seem to grab a light and catch a flame, some essential tips will help your candle creations last longer and give off a better fragrance.

The first rule of enjoying candles is to never leave a burning candle unattended.

That is the first basic rule of Safety, right?

Do you know what's better than a long, beautiful flame? A forever one.

Don't waste your money on short-lived candles!

Here are some tips to make your candles last as long and give off that perfect brightness every time!

Allow Time for Your Candles to Burn

It is highly recommended you burn your candle longer than just a few minutes.

It is a bad idea to burn your candle for a couple of minutes just so you can get a whiff of the wonderful fragrance – you are throwing your money away!

Wax basically has a memory of its own, and sometimes the wax pool will struggle to burn beyond the circumference of the previous burn.

If you want strong burns that last for hours, allow the wax pool of the container to reach all edges across the surface of the wax before putting out the wick.

This will help prevent tunneling and ensure even illumination across every inch of the candle.

What is Tunneling?

Tunneling is when the candle wick will most likely tunnel down into the wax.

The wick will sink deeper and deeper into the candle, and the wax on the sides will never burn, cutting the candle's life short.

Keep Your Candle in a Safe Place

Nobody truly means to catch their house on fire accidentally with a candle.

But sometimes it happens...

Place your candle in an area with plenty of open space. If you are setting it on a shelf, make sure there is plenty of space above the candle too. This will help avoid any potential fires.

To prolong the life of your candle, make sure it's in an area with limited airflow and no drafts.

Candle wax can be knocked off balance by the flow of air, and if this happens candles will produce smoke or soot that can leave stains on your candle container.

Try to avoid keeping your candle placed in a hot or warm area.  This will cause the candle to burn warmer and your wax to melt faster, again can shorten the life of your candle.

Keep Your Candle Wick Trimmed

Wick trimmers are essential for a longer-lasting wick burn. Plus, it feels pretty cool to use them on your own candles.

If you want a nice, bright flame and clean burning smoke from your smoker then it’s important that the wicks are at least one-quarter inch high.

Straighten Out the Wick Before Burning

To make sure you’re getting an even burn, it is important that after every session your wick should be straight up and down.

If there are any signs of leaning or canted flames on one side simply adjust the wick with your fingers once cool-down time has passed.

Be sure to remain gentle with the wick so that it does not break.
